Toyota Prius: More Than Just a Trendsetter

Most people you talk to will have heard of the Toyota Prius, even if they aren’t auto enthusiasts. After all, this was arguably the hybrid that made hybrids a household term. Now, you can also enjoy the compact Prius c, the more spacious Prius v, or the Prius Prime Plug-In Hybrid in addition to the original. The Toyota Prius amazing features and technology not found in other hybrid models along with its fun driving feel. Updates You’ll Love on the 2017 Toyota Prius

A brand new generation of the Toyota Prius was introduced for the 2016 model year so it should come as no surprise that the 2017 model sees limited changes. Even so, Toyota expanded the list of standard features in an impressive way, making the Toyota Safety Sense system standard. This system comes with Lane Departure Alert with visual and audible warnings, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, and a Pre-Collision System that features Pedestrian Detection and issues warnings, applying the brakes when necessary to prevent a collision. Other than Toyota Safety Sense moving from optional to standard, the 2017 Prius is nearly identical to the 2016 model. This means it shatters expectations with a bold stance, has bi-LED elements within the headlights, improved ride quality over previous generations, excellent fuel mileage, and offers Qi wireless charging and a 7-inch touchscreen. It is worth noting, however, that the plug-in hybrid variant makes a return for this model year under the name Prius Prime.

The Evolution of the Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius has always been a fuel-efficient vehicle, but the initial model focused more on practicality and gas mileage than appearance and the latest features. The Prius was introduced to the Japanese public in 1997 and just two years later, Toyota decided it had a good enough reception to try in the United States. After some initial testing in 1999, it was released around the world for 2001. The first Prius delivered in terms of efficiency, but had slow acceleration that left some drivers wanting more. By the time the Prius was released in the United States, there was only a single competitor on the market. For a 2003 redesign, the Toyota Prius became a more stylish fashion statement. It not only got improved gas mileage with fewer emissions, but it also had more power. The 2003 redesign is also when the Prius got more of a hatchback shape that helped with aerodynamics and cargo space. This was also the first model in the industry to get an all-electric air conditioning compressor. Sales quickly took off once drivers realized everything this model could do. For the third generation, Prius got a black grille, and its edges became more defined. The Prius lineup expanded for the 2011 model year, which is when the Prius v and Prius c arrived. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid arrived in 2012 to increase the model’s appeal.
