The Tough Tacoma at Toyota of Boerne

There are many reasons why the Toyota Tacoma is a favorite among other compact pickup trucks. One reason is its off-road capabilities, enabling drivers to take on multiple terrain types. This gives Tacoma owners the sport and action they may be looking for. If you aren’t into off-roading, this truck also behaves well on the pavement, providing a smooth ride with plenty of power to back it up. This comfortable truck can seamlessly take you from the city to the mountains thanks to its excellent suspension and the amount of steel that Toyota has integrated into its construction.

If you are considering the Toyota Tacoma, you are encouraged to test both the automatic transmission and the 6-speed manual. The 6-speed can pack a punch in off-road environments, while the automatic can give you a very pleasant experience on the pavement.

When you take your chosen Tacoma trim off the road, you get 9.4 inches of ground clearance, which allows it to take on the rough terrain without a problem. You’ll also find that the inside is just as rugged as the outside, so it takes the rough ride very well. Even the three passengers in the backseat will find that the ride is much more comfortable than expected.

The 2017 Tacoma Compared to Previous Model Years

The 2017 Tacoma has a great look, which was updated for the 2016 model year. The interior has a 6.1-inch touchscreen, which you can upgrade to a 7-inch screen if you need it. Regardless of the screen size, it is easy to navigate. You can enjoy the built-in navigation and the highly responsive Entune system, as well as a wide range of apps.

As for what truly sets the 2017 Toyota Tacoma apart from the previous year, it comes with six trim levels instead of five. The addition is the TRD Pro. The TRD Pro comes with better off-road suspension and equipment. It isn’t your typical Tacoma because of its 16-inch wheels, fender flares, hood scoop, front skid plate, taillight bezels, and fog lights. The TRD Pro also has a special traction-control system that improves grip without having to cut throttle input. Even the automatic version of the TRD Pro gets multi-terrain select, hill-start assist, off-road cruise control, and crawl control. The TRD Pro is based on the TRD Off-Road, but it comes with a lot more bells and whistles than you could ever expect.

The Evolution of the Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma has come a long way in its history. It began in 1995 as the compact truck it is classified as today. The second generation led Toyota to make it a midsize truck, but the company had to backtrack to the compact model because that’s what buyers wanted out of a multi-terrain truck.

In its beginnings, the Tacoma was the replacement for the “Toyota Pickup,” as it was called in the United States. The truck was the answer to consumer demand for a smoother ride that was much more comfortable. Consumers also wanted better safety, a more attractive design, and better handling. The goal wasn’t to give the truck better payload capacity or make it more rugged than it already was. The goal was to appeal to a market that no longer wanted pickup trucks for agricultural purposes or towing. People wanted trucks for everyday use.

Eventually, consumer feedback led to Toyota creating a larger and more powerful Tacoma in 2004 that had 18 configurations. There were two engines, three cab styles, and four transmissions to choose from. Buyers could also choose the bed length. Today, there are 28 configurations between the six trim levels. Between now and then, Toyota has reworked the exterior and put in a higher quantity of high-strength steel to make the Tacoma more rigid.
