The Tough Tacoma at Toyota of Boerne

There are many reasons why the Toyota Tacoma is a favorite among other compact pickup trucks. One reason is its off-road capabilities, enabling drivers to take on multiple terrain types. This gives Tacoma owners the sport and action they may be looking for. If you aren’t into off-roading, this truck also behaves well on the pavement, providing a smooth ride with plenty of power to back it up. This comfortable truck can seamlessly take you from the city to the mountains thanks to its excellent suspension and the amount of steel that Toyota has integrated into its construction. If you are considering the Toyota Tacoma, you are encouraged to test both the automatic transmission and the 6-speed manual. The 6-speed can pack a punch in off-road environments, while the automatic can give you a very pleasant experience on the pavement. When you take your chosen Tacoma trim off the road, you get 9.4 inches of ground clearance, which allows it to take on the rough terrain without a problem. You’ll also find that the inside is just as rugged as the outside, so it takes the rough ride very well. Even the three passengers in the backseat will find that the ride is much more comfortable than expected.

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma comes in six distinct trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. The base SR comes with a 4.2-inch driver display screen, a USB interface, Bluetooth®*, 16-inch wheels, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, forward collision warning, a backup camera, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, an Entune stereo, and more. The SR5 provides chrome exterior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lights, navigation, and satellite radio. The TRD Sport offers a wireless smartphone charging pad, a 7-inch touchscreen, a 120-volt power outlet, a hood scoop, 17-inch alloy wheels, and turn signals in the mirror housings. While the TRD Off-Road adds off-road elements such as Bilstein monotube shocks, extra skid plates, and multiple terrains settings, the Limited offers 18-inch wheels and other optional features. The TRD Pro – the top trim – offers Fox internal bypass shocks, all-terrain tires, and more.

The Evolution of the Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma has come a long way in its history. It began in 1995 as the compact truck it is classified as today. The second generation led Toyota to make it a midsize truck, but the company had to backtrack to the compact model because that’s what buyers wanted out of a multi-terrain truck. In its beginnings, the Tacoma was the replacement for the “Toyota Pickup,” as it was called in the United States. The truck was the answer to consumer demand for a smoother ride that was much more comfortable. Consumers also wanted better safety, a more attractive design, and better handling. The goal wasn’t to give the truck better payload capacity or make it more rugged than it already was. The goal was to appeal to a market that no longer wanted pickup trucks for agricultural purposes or towing. People wanted trucks for everyday use. Eventually, consumer feedback led to Toyota creating a larger and more powerful Tacoma in 2004 that had 18 configurations. There were two engines, three cab styles, and four transmissions to choose from. Buyers could also choose the bed length. Today, there are 28 configurations between the six trim levels. Between now and then, Toyota has reworked the exterior and put in a higher quantity of high-strength steel to make the Tacoma more rigid.
